As I complete my twelfth year of serving the Lord here at Shadow
Hills Church, I thank God for blessing the mission and ministry of
our congregation.
I
have always said that we are truly a faith-filled congregation. I remember my first year, when there was illness, tragedy,
and loss in our church family.
Prayer has always been a powerful force in our lives and in
the life of our congregation; drawing us together and drawing us
into the heart of God. Remember
the prayers for healing after the worship services.
Remember the prayer service at St. Joseph's Hospital with
one of our beloved members. On
September 11, 2001, it seemed like the entire neighborhood met in
our sanctuary to pray. We became the spiritual center of our community.
A
very strong witness to our faith has been our openness to take
risks for God. Throughout
the years we have gone above and beyond what we thought we should
have done, could have done, would have done.
We have kept our eyes fixed on Jesus and trusted the lead
of Christ.
I
just was talking to a neighbor who said that she remembered our
church because she was at a Habitat for Humanity project when we
fed the multitudes ... and it was all home cooking!
Mission Possible Weekend is now a model that is used by
churches throughout our Presbytery.
Our Autumn Festivals and Blessing of the Animals have
introduced neighbors to neighbors and helped reinforce our
community identity as a little piece of the country in the urban
sprawl of Los Angeles.
We
are known in our community for our warm welcome and casual
accepting nature. As
I look back on the past ten years, it is amazing how many
different people, in some cases really different people (you know
who you are), have passed through our doors. Each one is accepted, supported, guided, challenged, and
found Christ in their lives in new and amazing ways. Those who are no longer with us are still in our hearts and
prayers ... are still an important part of our church family.
Thank
God for each one of you. Thank
God for Shadow Hills Church.
I look forward to exciting and faith-filled times ahead.
Blessings,
Janet

COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION GRANT APPROVED!
Our community beautification
project, "Keepin' It Country", has been funded
through a matching grant by the Los Angeles City Department of
Public Works. The premise of the proposal is that, with all
of the development going on in our neighborhood, we need to
preserve our country feel and identity.
The approved project will install a
horse trail rest stop and community sign at the corner of Johanna
and Sunland Blvd. The corner property will be left
undeveloped and a labyrinth will be installed under the oak
tree. We will be working to get the entire community
involved in this project to Keep It Country.
